Today, you can find CBD-infused products in the market or you can always make them at home. You just need essential ingredients that are easy to find in a grocery store and your favorite CBD flower. This time, we want to share with you a great CBD soap recipe with you. Given its excellent benefits, CBD will make your skin look better and be healthier.

What is CDB Soap

Soap is a daily companion for most people to keep good hygiene, smelling good, and some have additional skin-care properties. However, because it is in contact with all of your skin with a high frequency, it is crucial to use natural and beneficial ingredients for your health.

CBD, a cannabinoid easy for the skin to absorb, can produce a state of mind and body of calmness and balance. Beautify your skin and your mood in every shower with this amazing cannabinoid.

How CBD Soaps Work

CBD has an intimate interaction with your skin, as your pores allow cannabinoids to go through your skin layers quickly. The absorbed CBD activates your endocannabinoid system, making your body and mind at ease.

This effect is more significant when showering with warm water because your pores are more opened. Still, the details of the benefits depend on what essential oils you use to make your soap.

Benefits of CBD Soap

Soap already has excellent benefits; it not only helps washing the dirt from your skin, but several soaps help moisturize it; these soaps have CBD oils. In contact with your skin, CBD reduces inflammation and mild pain.

Moreover, CBD has shown great anti-acne properties, and it may help treat skin conditions like eczema. Each type of essential oil empowers some of the benefits. When used daily, CBD soap helps to relieve chronic pain.

Choosing a Quality CBD Oil

At this point, you can choose if you want to buy an already-made CBD oil or doing it yourself. We have an easy and fun-to-read CBD oil recipe that ensures a top-quality product made with your hands. If you prefer buying it, look for some characteristics in your CBD oil. It might take some research but is worth the effort. A high-quality CBD oil:

  • Comes from organic, nutrient-rich, and contaminant-free soil
  • Comes from quality extraction and refinement processes
  • Has gone through legitimate third-party testing labs, and you have access to these test results.

What is Saponification

In short, saponification is the conversion of oils and fats (triglycerides) into the well-known soap when interacting with lye. In the industry, producers use sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide instead of lye. This way, the mix of these substances turns into soap and glycerol.

Saponification is a long process that takes 24 to 48 hours from mixing oil and lye. You can accelerate the reaction by applying heat or slow it down by keeping the mix cold. Be careful when doing this, as the reaction releases heat, and the lye is corrosive to the skin.

CBD Bar Soap Recipe with Lye vs. Without Lye

To talk about this, we must answer a crucial question: can we make soap without lye, in other words, without saponification? Well, no. Every soap has lye in the making. Still, there is a way you can make your CBD soap without handling lye.

The answer is grabbing an already-made soap and melt it! That way, you don’t have to deal with possible spills and gases of corrosive substances. In this guide, we will make both types of recipes.

CBD Soap with Lye

Equipment Needed

  • Soap mold
  • Stainless steel pot
  • Stainless steel spoon
  • Plastic spatula
  • Hand mixer or stick blender
  • Plastic container (for your lye)
  • Thermometer (any thermometer works fine)
  • Towels to incubate your mold
  • Protection gear like gloves, goggles, and mask

Ingredients

  • 10 ounces of coconut oil
  • 5 ounces of cocoa butter
  • 5 ounces of Shea butter
  • 5 ounces of castor oil
  • 5 ounces of avocado oil
  • 11.9 ounces of filtered water
  • 4.1 ounces of lye (or use calculator for different quantities)
  • 1 ounce of lavender essential oil (or any essential oil of your choice)
  • The desired amount of CBD oil

Step by step

Step 1

Pour the coconut, cocoa butter, Shea butter, castor, avocado, and CBD oils in the stainless steel pot (don’t add the essential oil just yet). Then, heat them together on low until they melt.

Stir frequently with your stainless steel spoon until they are combined entirely. Use the thermometer to make sure the mixture is around 100 degrees Fahrenheit and keep that temperature while doing the next step.

Step 2

Add the filtered water to the plastic container and then slowly add the lye into the water (if you pour the water into the lye, the solution can explode). Stir the mix with a stainless steel spoon until well combined.

This solution will heat up when you combine the ingredients, so set this aside after stirring and heat if necessary to reach 100°F (use your thermometer to keep track of this). Both mixtures must be at the same temperature.

Step 3

Now that both mixtures from step one and step two are 100°F, pour the lye water gently into the pot of oils. Blend them with a hand mixer or stick blender for about two to three minutes or until they are fully blended.

Step 4

Add the essential oil to the mixture and stir. Then, pour the mixture into your soap molds using the spatula. Finally, use the towels to cover and insulate your molds for 24 hours.

Step 5

After 24 hours, remove your soap from the molds, cut them, and let them cure for four to six weeks in a non-humid place (turn them occasionally to ensure all sides dry out). Weight the soap frequently. When it stops losing weight, it is ready!

Equipment Needed

  • A heated or butcher’s knife
  • Spoon or spatula for mixing
  • Soap molds
  • Towels

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of melt-and-pour soap base of your choice
  • The desired amount of CBD oil
  • 0.25 to 0.5 ounces of fragrance or essential oil of your choice
  • Soap-safe colorants and herbal additives like calendula petals to decorate your soaps

Step by step

Step 1

Chop the soap base up into one to two inches cubes. Heat the soap base cubes in low until it has melted. Stir them frequently to ensure they melt more or less even.

Step 2

When most of the soap has melted, stir in your CBD oil and mix thoroughly. Add in your optional fragrances/essential oil, colorants, and herbs. Mix until well combined.

Step 3

Pour the solution into your molds, and let them harden completely. You can use your towels to cover and insulate them. Let it cool for 24 hours or until it fully solidifies again. Using CBD soap is another way of enjoying the benefits of this cannabinoid and expanding the way you experience cannabis.
