Grand Master Kush Strain

If you want to become the head honcho in the world of cannabis, then you’ve got no choice but to face the grand master himself. Puns aside, the Grand Master Kush strain is a serious contender as far as heavy-hitting indicas go.

As I quickly found out right from the first puff, this strain is extra potent, and it gave me a one-two punch like any true grand master would. This Grand Master Kush review tells you more about this indica strain and why it’s a two-time Cannabis Cup Winner!

Key Takeaways

  • Grand Master Kush is a highly potent indica strain with high THC levels (> 28%).
  • It is a cross between two popular and potent indica strains: Hindu Kush and Skunk.
  • Its rich cannabinoid and terpene profile makes it an excellent strain for pain, stress, and sleep problems.

What Is the Grand Master Kush Strain?

The Grand Master Kush strain is one of the most potent indicas that I’ve ever had the pleasure of smoking, a 28%+ THC-packed powerhouse that’s just as flavorful as it is potent.

Although it contains about 20% sativa genetics, the indica really comes through, which, combined with the massive THC level, results in a true heavyweight cannabis strain. There might be dozens of Kush varieties, but there’s only one Grand Master!

Grand Master Kush Strain Appearance

Interestingly, the buds don’t look special, at least not until you notice the abundance of crystals on the outside. Grand Master Kush buds are large, thick, and dense, and even smaller buds are often thumb-sized.

As for the coloration, Grand Master Kush displays some light to moderate greens as its base, a moderate amount of light orange hairs, and a few purple sugar leaves for a bit of color. Pick the bud up, and you’ll notice how sticky it is, thanks to that thick layer of trichomes.

Grand Master Kush Strain Genetics

The Grand Master Kush strain is indica-dominant, with roughly 80% of its genetics being indica and only 20% being sativa. This is due to its lineage, which, as you’re about to find out, is quite famous.

Grand Master Kush Strain Lineage

Grand Master Kush is a cross between two of the most popular and potent indica strains: Hindu Kush and Skunk.

Hindu Kush is a pure indica strain native to the Afghani and Pakistani mountains, with a maximum THC level of 32%. It’s a sleep-inducing and body-buzzing strain that has a pungent aroma.

We then have Skunk, which is also an indica-dominant strain. As you might be able to tell, Skunk has a strong odor that can be smelled from far away. Although it smells extra strong, its potency tops out at 19%.

Despite Skunk’s comparatively low THC level, the result of crossing it with the Hindu Kush is Grand Master Kush, one of the all-time most popular and potent strains. It also has several popular cousins, including Peach Mint Kush, Ruby Kush, and Kushberry, all worth a try.

Grand Master Kush Strain THC/CBD Content

I love Grand Master Kush so much because it contains between 22% and 28% THC and, on rare occasions, may even hit the 30% mark.

I don’t mind a potent strain that hits hard right from the first puff and makes my eyes feel like lead weights are pulling them down, making the Grand Master Kush perfect for me. I’ve been a regular cannabis consumer for over 15 years, and rarely have I experienced the kind of potency that Grand Master Kush has.

What I appreciate about it, too, is that it also contains 1% CBD and 0.52% CBG. CBD has some potential for relieving symptoms associated with anxiety and depression, and CBG has great potential as a neuroprotectant, anti-inflammatory, and a pain-reliever.

Grand Master Kush Strain Terpenes

The Grand Master Kush strain contains several terpenes, including limonene, linalool, bisabolol, and terpinolene, along with a hint of caryophyllene.

These terpenes are responsible for the strong flavors and aromas of this Kush variety, which I’ll discuss below. However, what I’m really interested in here is the entourage effect, which is how the terpenes interact with the cannabinoids to produce additional effects.

Limonene is a painkiller, anti-inflammatory, and sleep-inducer. Linalool has sedating effects and is a great sleep aid. Next, we have bisabolol, a known analgesic and anti-inflammatory. We then have terpinolene, another painkiller, and caryophyllene, an excellent terpene for muscle pain, stress relief, and relaxation. Let’s figure out what this means in terms of the strain’s overall effects.

Grand Master Kush Strain Effects

To start with the potential benefits of Grand Master Kush, thanks to the terpenes discussed above, as well as the effects of CBD, CBG, and THC, it’s an excellent strain for anybody who needs some pain relief, help with sleep and stress relief.

Of course, everyone reacts differently to cannabis and its constituents. But, based on the evidence I’ve presented about the various terpenes and cannabinoids in Grand Master Kush, it’s safe to say that you should reap some of these benefits, at least to some degree, as I certainly have.

This strain is so strong that I can barely feel my face after smoking a few puffs, let alone any pain I may have experienced before the smoke hit my lungs.  Besides that, you can expect this to be a classic indica in terms of its effects.

Its heavy indica genetics, combined with its massive THC level, produces one of the strongest body buzzes I’ve ever felt. It’s like I was vibrating ever so slightly but also locked into my couch and barely able to open my eyes. It also put my mind in a state of euphoria, almost like a happy trance, but it also made any serious thinking or decision-making near impossible.

It’s definitely a sedating strain that you don’t want to consume if you still have to use any of your brain cells for the rest of the day.

Grand Master Kush Strain Reported Flavors

Thanks to those terpenes I talked about earlier, you can expect Grand Master Kush to have a very intense and skunky aroma that’s hard to miss, with flavors reminiscent of sweet fruit, lemon, and lavender. If you get a batch with a little more caryophyllene in it, you’ll notice a distinct hint of earth, pepper, and spice.

Grand Master Kush Strain Growing Info

The Grand Master Kush strain is one of the more difficult to grow, as it requires constant attention and great care regarding watering and temperature. However, it is known for being disease- and pest-resistant. It is best grown indoors, and after about nine weeks of flowering, a single plant should harvest up to six ounces.
